Beautiful morning

Some people are tired of the snow and are ready for spring, but I quite enjoyed my walk to work this morning with the world so freshly frosted in white. I even took a couple of photos of the snow coming down as I walked.

Isaac called me once he was up, just to tell me that there was new snow, so he enjoyed it, too. He's been struggling with a drippy nose the past few days, but it has by no means zapped his energy! We kept him home from preschool on Wednesday, but let him go today. All his energy sometimes has the effect of making us tired!

Tonight after supper we went to our local bowling alley to play a couple of games. Isaac has trouble getting the ball all the way down the lane, but he enjoys playing. In the second game, I helped him send the ball off, to give it a little more momentum, though not much more accuracy. Bowling is definitely not my strong game, though I do enjoy playing once in awhile.

Last night I went to the local college for a talk on herbs and 'sustainable gardening'. It was interesting learning about the whys and wherefores of composting, earthworms and good and bad insects and bacteria. Apparently earthworms are very beneficial for gardens, providing nutrients, as well as providing oxygenation through tunneling. The speaker also said that too much plowing is not good for the soil, as it destroys the structure provided by the worms and good insects. Who knew? Not I, being quite a greenhorn when it comes to gardening. I took lots of notes.

I'm looking forward to visiting the Fraser Valley in just over a week. Isaac and I are flying down to visit family (including my new niece) and friends, and attend my friends' wedding. Curtis will be staying home and looking after things here.

October 1983

I don't know which one of us (either my brother or me) shot the gun, but no matter, the important thing was that the tree-eater would eat no more trees. I remember we pulled the dead beaver up the coulee with our trike. Quite a lot of excitement. For those who are interested (or care to know), I would have just turned 14 when this photo was taken.

My mom was by the house today and wanted me to scan some old photos for a friend of hers. The above image of me and my brother was another old photo she found and thought I'd like it for sentimental reasons.

Stacking Wood

Isaac was a great and enthusiastic helper this morning as we brought some wood in for the fireplace. I brought the wood in from outside and left them on the floor in the back entryway. Isaac then proceeded to load up his dump truck and bring each load over in front of the fireplace.

A long time ago...

in a galaxy far, far away...

Last night was a momentous occasion. The reason being that Bonnie had never before seen the movie that we watched together. Star Wars (Episode IV), the original that came out over 30 years ago, and she's never seen it. Wow!

It was a lot of fun reliving my childhood, if only for a couple of hours. I cannot remember the last time I watched it. I kept mentioning all the little things I remembered, like which toy I had (Luke's speeder, various action figures etc.)
Another fun thing was Bonnie's impressions of the Jawa's and the Sand People. Pretty good for never having seen the movie before. That really made me laugh.

Overall though, I think she enjoyed the banter between C3PO and R2D2 the best.

Snowmobiling

Here's some pictures Bonnie took the other day when she and Isaac went snowmobiling with my Dad.

Nice day for it

Curtis' Dad called yesterday morning to see if we wanted to go snowmobiling in the afternoon. Curtis wasn't able to, but I knew that Isaac had been looking forward to doing that for some time now, and since the weather was 5 above, we decided to go for it. I was kind of nervous(understatement), since I'd never driven one, but Jim was gracious and helped me out when I made mistakes (like forgetting to pull up the engine kill button before trying to restart the engine.) After a couple of wrong turns and getting one machine unstuck (not mine), we went for a beautiful trail ride up to the top of a ridge. From there we had an awesome view of the surrounding mountains. We also saw a couple of moose and several deer during our travels. It was an afternoon well spent. Isaac enjoyed taking turns riding with Jim or me, and occasionally trying to walk in the deep snow.

On Monday my sister made me the proud auntie of yet another niece. Welcome to the world, Dana! Happy Birthday to her big sister, Jamie, who turned 7 yesterday!Happy Birthday to Josiah, who turned 9 on Wednesday, and Happy Birthday to Morfar, who will celebrate another birthday tomorrow! Thanks, God, for so many reasons to celebrate!

Getting Stuck

This afternoon upon returning home from lunch at Dairy Queen, we had a bit of trouble getting into our driveway. It's been so mild of late that the hard packed snow has turned into heavy slush and we got stuck trying to drive into the carport. 3 tries and still no luck. Thankfully we managed to back out. We then proceeded to spend a good hour and a half or so shoveling and clearing the slush away. The good part was that it almost felt like spring outside as we were able to work in t-shirts most of the time and still be more than warm enough.

560...

...the total number of points (combined) that Bonnie and I scored in our Scrabble game tonight. I'll let you figure out who won. If you can read the sheet we used to keep score that is.

Business Blog

I've started a blog for my business which you can find here. I'm just going to try this for a while and see how it goes. That way I can keep the personal stuff separate from the business activities that I want to write about.

Band Practice

One of the days this past week when Bonnie was at work in the afternoon, I made some toy guitars for Isaac (that I cut out of some 5/8" MDF). Only one to this point has been released from the confines of the 2'x4' piece that I bought (the other lies dormant, only traced so far). And tonight Isaac decided that he wanted to practice. So we had a little fun with the 'real' guitar and the paper mock-ups I had printed. Isaac keeps telling me that they need strings!

The misery of the cold

No, I am not talking about the weather, which was actually warmer today than it has been for days. I wonder how many different snowfalls we had throughout the day, though. My misery has been the stuffy nose and sore throat type of cold. The sniffles, which started last week, were a bother, but bearable. The sore throat,'it hurts every time I swallow' variety, I am very anxious to be done with.

Isaac got to spend some time with his Papa Jim today while Curtis was busy with various business related meetings, and he also got to see a couple of his cousins.

I want to wish my Dad a very Happy Birthday today - I love you, Dad!
