Photos from Prince Rupert

Last week Bonnie and I got away to the coast for a few days. We left Isaac with Mom and Dad, and had some time by ourselves to celebrate our 6th Anniversary. We had a lot of fun seeing and experiencing new things. Perhaps Bonnie will be able to fill in the gaps if she decides to post anything. But for me, I'll share some pictures and make a few comments here and there.

Every Thurdsay afternoon a big cruise ship docks at the waterfront. It's quite a scene as 2500 tourists get off the boat and experience Prince Rupert. I think people watching is a highlight for the locals.

While at the dock watching the cruise ship we met a couple locals, one of whom was a photographer who happens to be well known for his images of eagles. So he ends up inviting Bonnie and I to come with him down the shore to his favourite spot. We go with him to his house to pick up his knives and then we end up at an old pier where Chuck proceeds to fling beef and pork fat out onto the water to attract the birds.

Chuck goes on to explain that the crows are the first to come. Then after they have sufficient time to make enough rucus and racket, the eagles start coming around to see what all the fuss is about.

It took about 15 minutes or so for the eagles to come, but when they did, it was quite a site to see.

Walking back to have supper, we got another view of the ship with a better sense of scale to see how really big it truly was.

These were the guests of the house next door to where we stayed.

This was Bonnie's bedtime snack the first night we were there. The husband of the owner of the B&B brought it up.

This was the living room of the B&B where we stayed. If you're ever in Prince Rupert, check out Andree's. It's quite a nice place.

This is the new container port that just opened up recently. It's quite a site to see, and really does mean quite a lot to the local economy.

This was on the trail we took during our hike to see some rapids.

This was the restoration/museum of an old salmon cannery that was in Port Edward, just outside of Prince Rupert.

Part of the beautiful scenery along the coast as we drove back home.
